Combo Guide

1. Combo System Basics

Divinum's combo system is built around three core concepts: branching inputs (different attack timings produce different moves), animation cancels (certain recovery frames can be canceled into dodges, weapon switches, or special skills), and hitstun decay (enemies become progressively harder to keep in combos the longer they're juggled).

To optimize your damage, you need to understand which attacks have the longest active frames (damage-dealing window), which have the shortest recovery (can be canceled fastest), and how to chain them together without dropping the combo.

Training Tip: Use the Cursed Seal: Awakening trial as your combo lab. The basic grunts have enough health to test full combos, and the arena is flat with no obstacles. Record your combos and compare damage numbers to find your optimal routes.

2. Fast Weapon Combo Routes

The fast weapon excels at speed, hit count, and combo flexibility. Its individual hits deal less damage, but the high attack speed and generous cancel windows make it the best weapon for sustained combo damage.

Route A: Basic Light String (Beginner)

Light → Light → Light → Light → Light

The standard 5-hit light combo. Deals moderate damage and ends with a launcher that knocks the enemy into the air. Use this as your default combo when learning the game. The 4th hit has the longest cancel window — you can transition into other moves from there.

Route B: Branch Heavy (Intermediate)

Light → Light → Heavy → Light → Light

Inserting a Heavy attack after 2 Lights triggers a branching combo that deals more damage per second than the pure light string. The Heavy attack in this position is a spinning slash that hits twice and has a very short recovery. Follow with 2 more Lights for a high-damage finisher.

Route C: Max Damage Ground String (Advanced)

Light → Light → Heavy (cancel at frame 8) → Light → Light → Heavy → Special Skill

The optimal ground combo for the fast weapon. The key is canceling the first Heavy attack on frame 8 (right as the second hit connects) into more Lights. This bypasses the Heavy's long recovery and lets you fit more attacks. End with a special skill for maximum burst damage. This route deals approximately 40% more damage than the basic light string.

3. Heavy Weapon Combo Routes

The heavy weapon deals significantly more damage per hit but has slower attack speed and longer recovery frames. It excels at burst damage, shield breaking, and punishes after parries. The key to heavy weapon combos is cancel windows — learning which attacks can be canceled and when.

Route A: Parry Punish (Best Use Case)

(After parry) → Heavy → Heavy → Light → Heavy

After a successful parry, the enemy is staggered for 3 seconds. This is the perfect window for a heavy weapon burst. Start with 2 Heavies (high damage during stagger), then a Light to maintain hitstun, then a final Heavy for big damage. This combo deals the most damage possible in a parry punish window.

Route B: Launcher into Air Combo

Light → Light → Heavy (launcher) → Jump → Air Light ×3 → Air Heavy (dive)

The heavy weapon's launcher (third hit of the Light-Light-Heavy string) launches enemies higher than the fast weapon's launcher. Follow with a jump, 3 aerial Lights, and a diving Air Heavy that slams the enemy into the ground. The dive attack deals bonus damage based on height — use double jump to maximize altitude before diving.

Route C: Shield Breaker Combo

Heavy (charged) → Heavy → Special Skill (armor break)

Against armored enemies (who resist light attacks), use charged Heavy attacks to break their armor. Hold the Heavy button to charge — a fully charged Heavy breaks armor in one hit. Follow with another Heavy and an armor-break special skill to stun the enemy, then switch to your fast weapon for a damage burst.

4. Weapon-Switch Combos (Advanced)

Weapon switching is the key to maximum damage in Divinum. You can switch weapons during the recovery frames of certain attacks, immediately continuing with the other weapon's moveset. This lets you combine the fast weapon's speed with the heavy weapon's burst damage in a single combo.

Optimal Switch Combo

Fast: Light → Light → Heavy (cancel recovery) → [Switch to Heavy] → Heavy → Heavy → [Switch to Fast] → Light → Light → Special Skill

This is the highest-damage combo in the game for regular enemies. Start with the fast weapon to build hitstun quickly, cancel the Heavy's recovery into a weapon switch, unleash 2 heavy Heavies for burst damage, switch back to fast to maintain hitstun, and finish with a special skill.

Timing Note: Weapon switching has a 5-frame animation lock. You cannot attack during these frames. Time your switch so that the 5-frame lock occurs during the enemy's hitstun (not during your attack). The optimal switch point is immediately after an attack connects — the enemy is in hitstun and the 5-frame lock is invisible.

5. Ground-to-Air Transitions

The most damaging combos in Divinum combine ground and aerial attacks. The basic pattern is: ground combo → launcher → jump → aerial combo → dive finisher.

Full Ground-to-Air Combo

Fast: Light → Light → Heavy (launcher) → Jump → Air Light ×3 → [Double Jump] → Air Light ×2 → Air Heavy (dive) → [Land] → Light → Light → Special Skill

This combo keeps the enemy in hitstun for the maximum duration. The double jump resets your aerial position and extends the juggle. The dive attack slams them into the ground, and the landing combo + special skill finishes them. Practice this in the Cursed Seal trial until it's muscle memory.

6. Combo Damage Optimization

  • Always end combos with your highest-damage attack. The final hit of a combo often has a damage bonus. Use Heavy attacks or special skills as finishers, not light attacks.
  • Don't extend combos past hitstun decay. If the enemy starts to recover mid-combo, stop attacking and reposition. Hitting a recovering enemy risks them attacking you mid-combo.
  • Use special skills during combo, not after. Special skills used mid-combo benefit from the hitstun you've built. Using them after the combo ends gives the enemy time to dodge or block.
  • Match the combo to the enemy type. Fast weapon combos for quick/weak enemies. Heavy weapon bursts for armored/stationary enemies. Weapon-switch combos for elites and bosses (during stagger windows).
  • Practice one combo at a time. Don't try to learn everything at once. Master the basic light string first, then add the branch Heavy, then weapon switching, then aerial extensions. Each step builds on the last.

Note: Combo damage values and cancel windows are based on the launch version of Divinum. Balance patches may adjust specific attack values. The core combo structure (branching inputs, weapon switching, ground-to-air transitions) will remain consistent.
