1. Boss Overview
The Elite Sentinel of Soulfire is one of the first major skill checks in Divinum. Found guarding the deepest chamber of the catacombs, this armored warrior wields a massive soulfire-infused greatsword and commands spectral flames. The fight has three distinct phases, each introducing new attack patterns and increasing aggression.
Health: High (approximately 2,500 HP on standard difficulty) ยท Weakness: None โ the Sentinel takes normal damage from all sources ยท Immunities: Launch/juggle (cannot be airborne) ยท Arena: Circular chamber with pillars that can be used for line-of-sight breaks
Before You Fight: Ensure you have at least one healing consumable and the Blink ability. The Sentinel's phase 2 teleport attacks are nearly impossible to dodge without Blink. If you don't have Blink yet, progress further in the caverns to find it first.
2. Phase 1: Ground Stance (100%โ66% HP)
In phase 1, the Sentinel uses deliberate, heavily-telegraphed attacks. This is the learning phase โ use it to study timing and build resource.
Horizontal Slash
The Sentinel raises its sword to one side for ~1 second, then sweeps horizontally. Dodge through the Sentinel (toward it) to pass behind the blade, then immediately attack the back. This attack has a long recovery โ you can land a full light combo after dodging.
Overhead Slam
The Sentinel raises the sword above its head for ~1.5 seconds, then slams down creating a small soulfire shockwave. This is parriable โ a well-timed parry negates the slam and staggers the Sentinel for 3 seconds, allowing your heaviest punish. If you're not confident parrying, dodge sideways just before impact.
Soulfire Bolt
The Sentinel points its sword and fires a slow-moving soulfire projectile. Do not dodge this โ walk around it. The bolt moves slowly enough that you can sidestep it while continuing to attack. Dodging wastes i-frames and positioning.
3. Phase 2: Soulfire Overload (66%โ33% HP)
At 66% HP, the Sentinel plunges its sword into the ground, causing a soulfire eruption that covers the arena edges. Stay in the central circular zone. The Sentinel gains two new attacks and existing attacks become faster.
Arena Hazard: The arena edges are covered in persistent soulfire that deals damage-over-time. Never get cornered. Always keep an escape route toward the center. The pillars in the arena can block the Sentinel's charge attack but do not block soulfire projectiles.
Teleport Slash
The Sentinel vanishes, then reappears directly behind you with a sword slash. Listen for the teleport sound cue and dodge forward (away from where you expect the Sentinel to appear). Alternatively, use Blink to teleport away immediately after the sound. After the slash whiffs, the Sentinel is vulnerable for ~2 seconds.
Whirlwind Spin
The Sentinel spins with its sword extended, creating a soulfire tornado that moves slowly toward you. Run away โ do not try to dodge through it. The tornado lasts ~4 seconds and then the Sentinel is exhausted, giving you a 4-second punish window. This is the best damage opportunity in phase 2.
4. Phase 3: Enraged Final Stand (33%โ0% HP)
At 33% HP, the Sentinel's armor cracks and soulfire leaks from every joint. All attacks are significantly faster and deal 50% more damage. The Sentinel gains a desperation attack.
Soulfire Nova (Desperation)
The Sentinel raises both arms and charges for 2 seconds, then releases a massive soulfire explosion covering the entire arena. You must hide behind a pillar โ the explosion cannot pass through the arena pillars. Time your movement: get behind a pillar just as the Nova releases, then immediately Blink to the Sentinel for a punish. This attack is used once every ~30 seconds in phase 3.
In phase 3, prioritize survival over damage. Only attack during clear punish windows (after Whirlwind, after a parried Overhead Slam, after Nova). Chip damage with quick light combos and disengage immediately. The fight is a marathon โ patience wins.
5. Recommended Build & Runes
- Weapon: Faster weapon for consistent punishes. The heavy weapon's long windups are risky in phase 3.
- Rune โ Iron Will: Expanded parry window makes the Overhead Slam parry much more reliable. This is the single most valuable Rune for this fight.
- Rune โ Vampiric Riposte: Healing on parry follow-ups offsets the chip damage you'll take in phase 3.
- Rune โ Any health boost: Extra max health gives you a safety margin for phase 3's 50% damage increase.
- Avoid: Glass-cannon Runes (Reckless Abandon) โ the Sentinel's phase 3 damage will one-shot you.
6. Rewards & Drops
Defeating the Elite Sentinel of Soulfire grants:
- Soulfire Core Rune: Unique boss drop. Adds a soulfire burn effect to all heavy attacks. Excellent for builds focused on damage-over-time.
- Sanctite x250: Currency used for upgrades and Cursed Seal trial entries.
- Soulfire Greatsword (Weapon Skin): Cosmetic skin for the heavy weapon.
- Achievement: "Soul Extinguisher" โ Defeat the Elite Sentinel of Soulfire.
After the Fight: The chamber behind the Sentinel contains a hidden area with a health upgrade and a shortcut back to the catacombs entrance. Always explore behind boss rooms โ they typically contain valuable rewards.
