1. Combat Fundamentals (Tips 1-5)
Stay Aggressive — There's No Contact Damage
The single most important thing to understand: enemies cannot hurt you by touching you. Only their active attacks deal damage. This means you should always be close, always be attacking, and never run away just because an enemy is near you. Running away gives enemies room to use ranged attacks. Stay in their face.
Learn to Parry Early
Parrying is the highest-skill, highest-reward mechanic in the game. A successful parry negates all damage, staggers the enemy, and opens them for a massive punish. Start practicing parries on the weakest enemies in Region 1. The timing is generous — you'll get the feel for it after 10-15 attempts. Once parrying clicks, the entire game becomes easier.
Dodge Through Enemies, Not Away
When an enemy attacks, dodge toward them (through their body) rather than away. Most attacks have forward-only hitboxes, so dodging through puts you safely behind them. This also positions you for an immediate counter-attack. Dodging away just creates distance and gives the enemy time to attack again.
Use Aerial Juggles on Regular Enemies
Launching enemies into the air and juggling them is one of the most effective ways to deal damage to regular enemies. While airborne, enemies cannot attack or escape. Use your launcher attack (typically the end of a light combo or a dedicated uppercut), jump after them, and continue attacking. This works on all non-boss enemies.
Don't Mash — Learn Combo Routes
Mashing the light attack button will get you through the early game, but it won't work against tougher enemies and bosses. Divinum rewards deliberate combo construction. Try different timing patterns: light-light-heavy, light-heavy-light, pause-then-light. Each weapon has hidden combo branches. Experiment in the Cursed Seal: Awakening trial where you can fight freely.
2. Exploration & Progression (Tips 6-10)
Attack Every Suspicious Wall
Divinum hides secrets behind breakable walls, illusory floors, and ability-gated passages. If a wall looks cracked, discolored, or slightly different, attack it. If a floor has web-like cracks, press down to drop through. If a room looks suspiciously empty, there's almost certainly a hidden entrance. The map does NOT mark hidden rooms, so you must be thorough.
Backtrack After Every New Ability
This is classic metroidvania design, and Divinum does it well. Every time you unlock a new ability (Blink, double jump, water breathing, dash), immediately go back and explore all previous areas. Each ability opens 3-5 new secrets in earlier regions. You'll find health upgrades, Runes, and currency that make the upcoming areas much easier. Don't push forward without backtracking.
Get Blink As Soon As Possible
Blink is the most important ability in the game. It's found in the Forgotten Caverns (Region 2), guarded by a Crystal Golem mini-boss. Head there as soon as you can reach it. Blink opens more paths than any other ability, dramatically improves your combat options (teleport behind enemies, dodge through attacks), and is required to reach many of the game's best secrets.
Explore Before You Fight Bosses
Before entering a boss arena, fully explore the surrounding area. You'll often find health upgrades, Runes, and consumables that make the boss significantly easier. Bosses are designed to be challenging with baseline gear — the optional exploration rewards are what tip the balance in your favor. Never fight a boss under-geared if you can avoid it.
Use Cursed Seal Trials for Practice
The Cursed Seal: Awakening trial (found in Region 1) is the perfect training ground. You fight waves of basic enemies in a controlled arena with no exploration distractions. Dying has no penalty — you just return to the pedestal. Use this to practice parries, combos, and aerial juggles until they feel natural. The Sanctite reward is a nice bonus.
3. Resource Management (Tips 11-13)
Don't Hoard Special Skills
Your special skill resource builds quickly through attacking and parrying. Don't save it for "the right moment" — use it frequently. A special skill used to extend a combo or break an enemy's armor generates more resource than it costs in the long run. The only exception: keep one skill's worth of resource for emergencies (escaping a corner, negating a deadly attack).
Spend Sanctite on Upgrades First
Sanctite (the game's currency) should be spent on permanent upgrades (health, resource capacity, damage) before anything else. Cosmetic skins and weapon cosmetics are fun but don't improve your effectiveness. Prioritize upgrades that make you harder to kill (health, resource) before pure damage upgrades.
Healing Consumables Are for Bosses
Use healing consumables liberally during regular exploration (health regenerates between fights anyway, but consumables help in tough encounters). Save your strongest healing items for boss fights. It's better to use a consumable and survive a boss than to die with a full inventory. Dying sends you back to the last checkpoint and costs progress.
4. Common Mistakes to Avoid (Tips 14-15)
Don't Roll Off Edges During Combat
Many arena fights take place on platforms with edges. Dodging/rolling backward during combat can send you off a ledge, resulting in fall damage or even death. Always be aware of your positioning. Dodge through enemies (forward) rather than away — this keeps you in the center of the arena and avoids ledge hazards.
Don't Ignore the Ancestor Spirit Skill Trees
As you collect Ancestor Spirits (one per region), you gain skill points to invest in deity-linked skill trees. These provide significant passive bonuses and new combat abilities. Many players forget to invest their points. Check the skill tree menu after collecting each spirit. Recommended early investments: parry window expansion, healing on parry counter, and combo damage bonuses.
5. First 5 Hours: Priority Checklist
If you want to start optimally, follow this priority order in your first few hours:
- Complete Region 1 (Coastal Cliffs) — find the Tidal Cave secret and the first Cursed Seal pedestal
- Reach Region 2 (Forgotten Caverns) and defeat the Crystal Golem to unlock Blink
- Backtrack to Region 1 with Blink to find the Cliffside Ledge secret (Rune + Sanctite)
- Explore Region 2 fully with Blink — find Echo Step Rune and the illusory floor health upgrade
- Reach Region 3 (Ominous Forest) and unlock Water Breathing
- Practice parries and combos in the Cursed Seal: Awakening trial
- Invest your first Ancestor Spirit skill points in parry and healing bonuses
Final Advice: Divinum is a challenging game, but it's fair. Every death is a learning opportunity. If you're stuck on a boss or area, take a break, explore elsewhere for upgrades, or practice in a Cursed Seal trial. You'll come back stronger and win.
